MORTAL PRISON
The walls are a pearly glow around me
Ushering me into the sterile stench of the hospital
The green curtains mock me,
Masqueraders of the verdant boughs i'll never reach
The sparrow hums its melancholy strain
Numbed by the groan of my ventilator
The damp whiff of rain on my curtains
Stolen by the unwelcome deluge of oxygen binding me
to life
I long to sever these false threads of hope,
Of bleak persistence,
Of mortal agony...
Oh!To embrace the festering wounds of pestilence,
To flee the prison of shallow life
To drown in the soothing waves of death
To shed the reeking robe of mortality
And wander fearless into immortality.
